SUU: ART 3840
(Portraiture)
April 2010
This series of photographs was inspired by a discussion on the proportions of the face as it relates to beauty. Scientific research has implied that those who fall within certain proportional allowances are “beautiful” by definition. Now, combine that theory with the adage that people choose a life companion based on their own perceived attractiveness level, and one could assume that companions would have similar facial proportions.
My influences also stem from research on the eugenics movement and related theories. It is fascinating that such theories were once so widely accepted and practiced (yes, even in the United States).
I intend to offer no particular resolution to these claims, but believe these images are fascinating visual depiction nonetheless.
